Contemporary Yoga
‘Contemporary Yoga’ is a merging of Eastern and Western thought, knowledge and practice. Integrated Yoga practice supports living life with deeper insight, sensitivity, self knowing, and resilience. Form is infused by the integration of developmental and functional movement patterns which encourage freedom and grace in movement, posture and breath. Contemporary Yoga in New Zealand is being developed by Karla Brodie and Neal Ghoshal who as well as teaching weekly classes facilitate a unique and in-depth yoga teacher training programme.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is a powerful practice to deeply rest and restore the mind and body. Classical Yoga postures are practiced completely supported by blankets and bolsters. This practice is a positive antidote to high levels of stress and fatigue. Karla, the principal teacher of the Contemporary Yoga Restorative programme, has taught restorative for over 23 years throughout Auckland and New Zealand. She co-faciliates Restorative Yoga retreats and teacher trainings. She is one of New Zealand’s most experienced teachers of this very nourishing approach to Yoga practice.
Restorative Sound
A gentle meditative class taught by Tonia Dixon that offers an opportunity to slow the body and quieten the mind. The whole class is floor based postures, which are held for longer periods of time which can stimulate and balance the energy in ones body. These postures also work on the connective tissues of the body to help increase the circulations in ones joints and improve flexibility.
Class finishes with a Restorative pose whilst listening to singing bowls which can help slow down thoughts and brain waves by immersing oneself in the sounds, vibrations, and frequencies of the Crystal Quartz Alchemy Bowls.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga taught By Karin Michelle Sang is a meditative and profoundly relaxing practice, nourishing the deeper tissues of our body, regaining ease and mobility in our joints, relieving tension and pain while calming the nervous system. The simple passive seated and lying poses are held without muscle activation with the support of blankets, bolsters and blocks for 3 – 5 minutes. We stimulate and enhance the flow of energy through the body to create a profound sense of calmness, focus and equanimity.
Dynamic Movement
Fun classes where we explore the breath and movement together. This is ideal for all fitness levels and no experience is required.
In this practice we move the body through asana’s, incorporating sun salutations and flows to bring heat to the body, offering strength and flexibility. Props are sometimes used to help support alignment.
Sound Bath
A meditative practice with singing bowls, chimes and gongs. Sound bowls are believed to relieve stress, restore emotional balance, and help you sleep better among many other health benefits.
If you find meditation difficult, or are new to the practice, this is a helpful way to turn off your thoughts and slow down your brain waves by immersing yourself in the sounds, vibrations, and frequencies of the Crystal Quartz Alchemy Bowls.
